무단침입 (Trespass)
Kihyun was born in Goyang, South Korea, on November 22, 1993. He’s the main vocal of Monsta X, and has both great musical talent and skill. He graduated from DongAh Institute of Media and Arts and can also play instruments such as piano and guitar. Beside his interest in music, Monsta X’s Kihyun has also revealed that he’s a big fan of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and that he once appeared on the music survival program, King of Masked Singer. In 2015, Monsta X debuted by releasing a song titled Trespass. During their debut, Kihyun appeared in the Tresspass music video with dark brown hair and very simple make-up as a rookie. Kihyun has a concept with wearing a hip-hop costume and fashion style during their debut era and he sometimes appeared with a different hairstyle by curling his hair and making it a little bit wavy.
HERO
In the same year, Monsta X has another comeback with the release of a new song, titled Hero. Although the song was released in the same year as their debut song, Kihyun returned with a new hairstyle, as well. In this comeback, he cut his hair a bit shorter and changed the color. In the previous comeback his hair was a dark brown, but during the Hero era, the main vocal of Monsta X appeared with a lighter brown, of similar tone. Using a different concept, the color had a bit of red, as well. As you can see from his teaser picture from Hero era, Kihyun has a somewhat different hair color than the previous comeback, and it’s shorter than before. Kihyun stood out in this era because of his vocal character, which is strong and powerful.
걸어 (ALL IN)
On May 18, 2016, Monsta X released an EP which included their comeback single, All In. In this era, Monsta X received huge recognition from Korean fans, and all the members’ style was upgraded from their debut era until their comeback with All In. The song, itself, has R&B and hip-hop vibes. It shows Kihyun’s strong vocal character and Jooheon and I.M’s great rapping skill through All In. Speaking of their appearance, Monsta X’s Kihyun had an amazing look during this era, and their stylist choose the best concept for him by making him looks more mature. During the All In era, Kihyun’s hair color went blond, and sometimes he appeared on stage wearing it curly. On their music video, Monsta X’s Kihyun looked very cool and charismatic by showing off his acting skill and a different image from being a singer.
네게만 집착해 (Stuck)
In this comeback, Kihyun appeared with another brand-new concept, and looking like a bad boy. He surprised the fans who had waited for the group’s comeback by having an undercut hairstyle. The color remained the same as it had been in their previous comeback era. Kihyun had a comeback with Stuck on August 7, 2016, which was another single from the same EP as All In, titled The Clan Pt. 1 ‘LOST. During this comeback, his fans didn’t expect any huge change in Kihyun’s hairstyle, but it was shorter than with any other comeback so far. His visual during this era became a huge topic, since his face didn’t describe an image of bad boy. FIGHTER
Later the same year, Monsta X had another comeback by releasing a new EP, titled The Clan Pt. 2 ‘GUILTY’, on October 4, 2016, and performed their comeback song, Fighter. Monsta X’s Kihyun made this comeback into a something memorable by having what became legendary pink hair. During this comeback, Kihyun become the member who was easiest to spot on stage, since he was rocking bright pink hair. Not every idol has a great visual when it comes to colorful hair dye, but Monsta X’s Kihyun made the look iconic. The group’s comeback with Fighter had a different concept, by adding an electric guitar that made it like a soundtrack from something on Broadway. Every member in Monsta X had different hairstyles and concepts, as well, to show their fans their characters and personalities.
아름다워(Beautiful)
Monsta X released a new song for their next comeback, titled Beautiful, on March 21, 2017. The song is a track from their EP titled The Clan Pt. 2.5: The Final Chapter, which consists of 10 songs. If you look at Kihyun’s teaser picture, above, his hairstyle was dyed back again to dark brown hair color. Kihyun’s hair was longer than in the previous comeback, anno longer had the undercut from the previous comeback. Although it wasn’t a huge difference that made his appearance become memorable by his fans, Kihyun looked a little calmer with his appearance during this comeback. The concept of the Beautiful music video caused a lot of theories, which started from all of the songs and music videos that were released from their EP, The Clan Pt. 2.5: The Final Chapter. Monsta X is a group who can really put an amazing story behind their music videos, which includes their members as the actors, as well.
Shine Forever
Shine Forever is one of the comeback songs that was included from the previous EP. The music video, itself, was released on June 19, 2017, and become their second comeback in 2017. During this comeback, Monsta X’s Kihyun greeted his fans by having yet another different concept and hairstyle. In Shine Forever‘s music video and along their promotion, Kihyun has black hair, which is very natural with his looks. If you look closer, the stylist of Monsta X has cut Kihyun’s hair into a shorter style than the previous comeback. Nevertheless, he still has the image of a young boy who has a high spirit, and always amazes everyone with his charisma on stage.
Dramarama
In November 2017, Monsta X came back with their 5th EP, titled The Code, and made their comeback with Dramarama. During this era, Kihyun has a light brown hair color again, for the first time in a while. During this comeback, the stylist wanted to make Kihyun’s concept to be a sweet boyfriend. As the main vocal of Monsta X, Kihyun is a great singer and his vocal character suits any Monsta X songs when it comes to R&B, hip-hop, ballads, EDM, or any other genre. Dramarama has strong elements of dance and electronic music, which captures a K-Pop vibe, as well. But in this era, Kihyun wears two different hairstyles. One while filming the music video with his light brown hair, and another to promote the comeback stage, with silver, curly hair. Shoot Out
In the end of 2018, Monsta X released their next comeback song with Shoot Out, which was one of the tracks fromf their second album, titled Take.1 Are You There?. During this comeback, Kihyun looks more charismatic than he has in any other comeback, since the concept for Shoot Out was a lot darker. However, it still prioritized Kihyun’s strong vocals. Shoot Out is basically uses the same instruments as rock and trap-based music, which also connected with Kihyun’s strong vocals when he took part in the refrain. In this comeback, Kihyun was styled with a dark-brown hair color, which made his appearance looks mature but still as cool as ever. During the Shoot Out performance, Kihyun used all of his energy and charm while dancing to the song. The comeback’s style and concept involve using bold make-up with heavy eyeliner, black costumes, and accessories like chains or chokers to support this era’s concept.
Alligator
In early 2019, Monsta X had their comeback with the release of their third studio album, Take.2 We Are Here. By this era, Monsta X had gained huge popularity after doing a world tour, and has new fans who support them until today. On February 18, 2019, the group finally released their music video, with Alligator. Just like their previous comeback, Monsta X put a lot of theories in their music video, that the fans are trying to solve. If you’ve already watched the Alligator music video, you can see that Kihyun dyed his hair a light brown and is still using the bad-boy concept from the previous comeback.
