The Penthouse 2: War in Life: Review
Following the success of the first season, SBS was ready to release the Korean drama The Penthouse 2: War in Life (hangul: 펜트하우스). The first episode of The Penthouse 2: War in Life was aired on February 19, 2021, and broadcasted on SBS with a total of 36 episodes. The Penthouse 2: War in Life has the genres of drama, crime, revenge, thriller, and mystery which will continue the story of the first season about the endless conflicts of the residents of the luxurious apartment of Hera Palace. In the previous season, Oh Yoon-hee (played by Eugene) was caught up in her own greed and ambition while trying to prove herself as a penthouse queen. After realizing that she killed Shim Soo-ryeon’s (played by Lee Ji-ah) daughter, Min Seol-ah (played by Jo Soo-min), Yoon-hee tried to cover up the incident. Yoon-hee even urges Joo Dan-tae (played by Uhm Ki-joon) to get rid of his own wife. In the end, she changed her mind and decided to confess her crime. However, it was too late because she was framed by Dan-tae for Soo-ryeon’s murder. The final episode of the first season of The Penthouse was left hanging. Yoon-hee stabs herself in the throat until she faints after being helped by Logan Lee (played by Park Eun-seok) to escape. In the second season, Dan-tae and Seo-jin have decided to get engaged, but Seo-jin is still afraid that Yoon-hee will come back into her life and take revenge after being accused of murder. Dan-tae then decides to prepare a proposal for Seo-jin at Hera Palace. However, police officers arrive and win over Dan-tae for Soo-ryeon’s murder. This also leads the residents at Hera Palace to believe that Dan-tae killed his wife. After the trouble with the police is over, Dan-tae and Seo-jin finally have an engagement party. But, Yoon-chul and Yoon-hee make an iconic appearance using a helicopter and doing some damage on the spot. Meanwhile, Dan-tae and Cheon Seo-jin (played by Kim So-yeon) believe that things will calm down after getting rid of everyone who stands in their way and covering up Seol-ah’s death. They are unaware of the catastrophe that Yoon-hee will bring. From footage of The Penthouse 2: War in Life shared by SBS, Yoon-hee’s appearance looks very thin and unkempt. The look in her eyes is very tired, a contrast to her strong aura in the first season. On the other hand, Yoon-chul introduces Yoon-hee as his wife and surprises his biological daughter Eun-byeol. It also makes Seo-jin unable to stop thinking about Yoon-chul and bickering with Dan-tae. However, Yoon-hee will soon return to being a more formidable figure after approaching the brink of death. After two years of allowing Dan-tae and Seo-jin to enjoy their victory, Yoon-hee seeks revenge. However, the plan doesn’t go smoothly because Dan-tae and Seo-jin’s strength gets stronger after the two get married. Another problem arises when Seo-jin is diagnosed with inflammation of the vocal cords which makes Seo-jin have to cancel her concert. The doctor also said that her illness might not be cured if she insists on singing. Just like Dan-tae’s relentless nature looks weak, she also doesn’t want her reputation to be ruined by canceling her 20th-anniversary concert as long as she’s working.
